Hi I have been suffering from a chest infection since mid October. In this time I have been prescribed four different anti biotics ranging from 750 mg daily to 2.5g daily and have been given steriods. The chest infection does not seem to go I have had clear chest X-ray and the iron in my blood was fine. I am in agony with pains in the front back and left side of my chest. Any suggestions
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your concern. Best treatment of chest infection is identification of causative organism and giving appropriate antibiotic according to the organism. For this we need culture and sensitivity report. So send sputum culture and sensitivity report. If sputum is not available, get done bronchoscopic evaluation and BAL (bronchoalveolar lavage) culture and sensitivity report. This will guide you about effective antibiotic treatment. By this way, we can reduce the over use of antibiotics and so resistance and side effects can be reduced. This will also speed up the recovery. So consult your doctor and discuss all these. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
