Suggest Treatment For Chronic Constipation

Hello, I have an anal skin tag which I've had since my young childhood (I had chronic constipation when I was young). It has not bothered me until recently (I'm 21), and I've been extremely stressed at work and my food intake as been less than healthy, thus resulting in constipation. My stools have been very hard, and it almost feels like there was a "rip" or fissure, and it always tends to be more sensitive around the tag when I have a bowel movement. After my bowel movement, it was quite a bit of blood in the toilet, but only in the water, as my stools looked normal (light brown, regular shape) with no blood actually in the stool itself. Is it possible that I have hemmroids? If so, what can I do to get rid of them, and prevent this from happening later on?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I can understand your concern for your husband's health.
1) Constipation since childhood might be related to abnormal movement of rectum and anal canal.
2) You should undergo colonoscopy and anal manometry test to check movement pattern and structural pattern of rectum and anal canal.
3) Sometimes, nerve supply within the anal canal would be abnormal which might lead to constipation since childhood.
4) Laxative would help only to relieve symptom of constipation otherwise exact diagnosis with above mentioned tests to deliver appropriate treatment is mandatory.
5) I would also suggest to continue laxative for relief from symptoms and also undergo above mentioned investigations after consulting a medical gastroenterologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
General Surgeon
