General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
As far as known to me Amazon's Jungle is full of palasmodium falciparum and this causes algid malaria . When such type of patient visit in my clinic I usually precribe them cloroquine 500 mg two tablet stat followed one tablet after 6 hour of first dose.
On next day ( 2nd & 3rd day) one tablet 24 hours after first dose .
Now primaquine 15 mg 6 tablet stat .
This is a standard treatment and very much effective without any side effect . Only side effect is nausea and vomiting , if severe vomiting give him 3-4 intravenous drip of electrolyte M solution.
But now a day doctor also prescribe Injection ARTESUNATE ( I/M or I V ) 2-4 mg for three days.
However your son would be alright within above mentioned treatment.
Hope this information will help you.
