Suggest Treatment To Prevent Altitude Induced Migraines

I am going to the mountains of British Columbia for 10 days and have previously experienced altitude induced migraines. Is there anything I can do to prevent them before going or while I am there. I take Frova and naproxen for migraines at home, 2-3 times per month.

Hi.
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your query.
I think I would be able to help you.

The symptoms of the query are quite interesting.
You have called the symptoms as altitude induced migraine
I am not sure if you are having that problem.

I think I would suggest that you have some information about the symptoms.
The possibility is that the symptoms are due to a difference in the air pressure at the ground levels and the mountain areas.
The air at altitudes is thinner than the air present at the ground level.

This will mean that the oxygen in the body of the climber is low.
The low oxygen can cause a headache and associated symptoms like vomitting.
This is mistaken as migraine. If it was a true migraine, you would have headaches and attackes even at sea level.

The best way to avoid this yourself is to adapt yourself in special camps.
Progress up slowly through the altitudes. And take adequate rest at each level of activity.

I hope that the information helps you to know about the symptoms.
Best of luck. Dr Mittal.

Hello and welcome.

Altitude-induced migraines are triggered due to lack or deficiency of oxygen, and they are almost inevitable in individuals who are visiting regions of high altitudes and suffer from migraines. I would suggest a prophylactic course to be initiated before heading out there.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
