Tear On Plantaris Tendon And Gastronemius Muscle. Swollen Ankle, Cold Feet. Is This Serious?

I was diagnosed two days ago with an acute tear on the plantaris tendon/muscle and possible tear on medial side of the gastronemius muscle. The leg is slightly swollen and so is my ankle. There is no visible sign of bruising yet. The problem that concerns me is that the foot on the affected leg feels cold to me and is very cold to the touch. Is this normal?

Calf injuries should be examined by a Sports Medicine specialist or a orthopaedician.THe injury may need imaging studies using Musculo-skeletal Ultrasound Scan(MKUS) or MRI scan. The treatment for rupture of the gastrocneimus is nonsurgical and conservative.Rest,Ice pack application,Compression bandage and Elevation(RICE) of the affected limb, use of crutches initially for a couple of weeks,The plantaris muscle is a vestigeal structure which does not need any intervention.Use of NSAIDs for pain can be done for 3-4 days after which it is best to use safer analgesics ,your doctor may prescribe acetaminophen or Tramadol for the pain.Rehabilitation is gradual and it may take 4-8 weeks or longer for full recovery.
