Tooth Infected Even After Root Canal And Advised For Extraction. Pain And Taking PenVK And Flagyl. Consult Another Dentist?

I had a root canal 10 years ago, now the same tooth has become infected. My regular dentist send me to an endontist who said I should get the tooth pulled (don't have one above it anyway ) however, he would not pull it.
So I called my regular dentis back..but I have to wait 20 days for the next available appt. Meanwhile I am in such sever pain that I am almost crippled every 3 hours no matter that I am taking Pen V K and Flagyl. I have been on both for 6 days, along with Motrin 800 every 4 hours and STILL its killing me. Should I seek another dentist, and will extraction help the pain go away? I am very worried about the infection going to my face, throat and neck not to mention my heart!!

Hi,
It seems that you got infected root canal tooth and now pulp abscess is formed giving rise to this problem.
Unless you got your tooth removed and pus is not drained your problem is not going to solve.
Consult new dentist and get examined.
Ok and take care.

Hello,

Welcome to healthcaremagic forum.

Since your endodontist has suggested extraction of root canal treated tooth, the tooth may be severely infected which cannot be saved.

If possible, you can visit another dentist and get the tooth extracted as soon as possible.

If left untreated, infection can spread into sinuses as well as tissue spaces ,thus interfering with systemic health .

Meanwhile,take complete course of antibiotics-analgesics.

Maintain oral hygiene well.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

According to your clinical symptoms i suspect that you have developed infection in your Root canal treated tooth. An x-ray of the tooth is required depending on which the tooth can be saved or extracted.

Unless the pus is drained you will face pain and infection.
Antibiotics and analgesics will give temporary relief.
I would suggest you to visit to the Dentist and get the treatment done.
Once the pus is drained you will get the relief.

Hope you find this as helpful,

Regards..

Hi Sharon,
Yes your correct and am happy your aware about oral-systemic

relations(spread to the other organs).you havent mentioned your age,and

mostly root canal treated teeth requires dental x-rays for further

diagnosis and treatment plan .since your endodontist recommended for

extraction .Dont put yourself under overdose of antibiotics & analgesics.

get an appointment with another dentist or an oral surgeon

immediately.
