Unable To Supress TSH After Partial Thyroid Removal. T4 40, T3 8, TSH 0.77. On Levothyroxine 300 Mg. Right Medication?
My thyroid specialist is unable to supress my TSH after partial thyroid removal (biopsy showed papillary cancer) Initially he wanted to be near as possible to 0. is now 0.77 but the T4 is 40. My local doctor and specialist are in conflict about my medication (levothyroxine 300mg)daily. T3 is just out the range at 8. I feel ok but worry about my future health. Could I be overdosing.........Charles
Hi, Despite taking maximum dose of thyroxine your TSH is still showing up. You should probably stop thyroxine and after a few weeks do a radioiodine test to check whether or not there are secondaries or recurrence of the primary tumour. Another modality in fashion nowadays is using recombinant TSH and doing the scan in which case you would not have to stop thyroxine. Best regards
