Upper Back Pain, Deep Breath While Sleeping Feels Difficult, Stain While Standing, Tight Chest. Any Ideas?
hi, ive been complaining about a recent upper back pain for 2 days now. the discomfort/pain starts between the scapula and runs down to mid back. taking a deep breath at a sleeping position feels difficult, standing up straight or sitting down seem to feel like im putting a strain on it, sometimes i feel like my chest is tight and breathing becomes a little uncomfortable...
Hi, The pain described by you is musculoskeletal in origin by history alone. But,a thorough clinical examination would also be required.Couple of other possible conditions that need to be excluded are A/c gastritis and lung conditions. There is only one serious condition that can present like this and that is coarctation of aorta. But this is a very acute condition and is very unlikely in your case.Anxiety also seems to be involved.Analgesics ,antacids and rest to the part should help you to recover and reach your normal self very quickly.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello and Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for writing to us.
Your pain seems to be due to muscle spasm.Muscular spasms can be treated by (1) treating the underlying cause (2) keeping yourself well hydrated (3) stretching the muscles involved (4) the use of anti inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, with meals provided there are no contraindications to their use (5) a muscle relaxant may be necessary
Hope this helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.
Dr Saurabh Gupta
your pain may be due to mechanical backache according history but clinical examination required for confirm it and exclude some other condition. treatment of mechanical back pain. 1. bed rest for 2-3 days. bed rest for more than 2 days should be discouraged as it has been shown to delay recovery. 2. analgesics or antispasmodics with antacids. 3. topical liniment e.g. voveran gel for local application 4. hot fomentation (moist heat) 5. once the pain is over spinal muscle strengthening exercises are started to rehabilitate the back muscles.
Hi, It seems that you might be having some strain on chest back muscles perhaps lifting some weight or having uneven pressure on the muscles. now muscles went into the spasm. Take analgesic with some muscle relaxant medicine for 2-3 days and you will be alright. Apply some analgesic, muscle relaxant cream locally. Ok and take care.
