when blood supply to a part is cut off because of injury burn or in some cases in diabetes ;the part does not get oxygen and nutrition .The tissue of that part die gradually .It turns black gradually and looses sensation and function .The part has to be removed by operation ( if it is too late and there id no chance of restoring circulation ) in majorty of cases removal of the part is only option
