Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Our daughter is 16 and she is extremely upset that she is losing her hair and it is thinning out. (She says for the past 2 years). I have read stress causes this in teenagers. I took her to a dermatologist and she ran all tests that came back negative. In all honesty, it is thinning and very long. She is a competitive athlete and changed her diet too in the past 10 months. Fruits/veggies healthy foods. She had surgery late January at Children s Hospital in Boston. She is fine now, but the past 2 years we have learned of many internal birth defects. She does take Solodyn for acne, but that is all for medicines. What else can I do for her?
I think, May be she has underline depression, due to which she is losing her weight. She needs a proper treatment with antidepressant and with that she would improve. You should consult a psychiatrist for proper mental status evaluation. In case, you need further help, you can ask.
Thanks
