What Causes Bad Sense Of Smell?

i woke up about 3 am with a bad smell in my nose like rotten eggs,and i thought it might be the garbage,and when i got up i was slightly dizzy and a runny nose. i put vicks vapor rub in my nose to help change the smell,but it didnt help much.i went back to sleep and when i woke at 630 am ,it was gone.i have been having a nunny nose on occasion this past week.i asked my doctor obout bad smells in my nose this past 2 years,usually what ever has a strongest oder seems to be retained in my nose for a while.it could be anything from a sauce in cooking or any other odor at a given time.he said its probaply your sinuses.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns...

As per your complain and presentation the symptoms, bad smell in nose along with runny nose and dizziness are commonly seen in case of sinusitis when there is infection in the sinuses and runny nose is exactly discharge coming from the sinuses..
You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and along with a thorough clinical evaluation,a PNS VIEW x-ray and an MRI of salivary glands can help in confirming the cause and treated accordingly..
For sinusitis he/she can advise you to take antibiotics like Levofloxacin or Clarithromycinor Augmentin, anti-inflammatory medicine like Ibuprofen, steam inhalations, steroid nasal sprays, saline nasal irrigation and use a humidifier in your room.
Steam inhalations with a few drops of Eucalyptus oil in the oiling water can help in relieving bad smell..
