What Causes Chronic Hip/lower Back Pain And Constipation?

hi my dad has severe pain on left hand side hip/lower back area.initial x-ray showed possible hip bone crumbling but physio has since said she thinks it may be a slipped disc pushing on a nerve. his left leg is so weak he cant walk on it,he is also constipated and keeps losing his balance. he has been waiting nearly 2 months for a scan. What do you think it could be?

Hi,
The symptoms your dad is experiencing is due to lumbar radiculopathy. However a complete neurological examination is required so that he can be assessed more clearly. There must be huge protrusion of a disc which is compressing the nerves that supply his leg causing severe symptoms. (Although there can be various other causes but this is the most likely). You should definitely get a MRI scan done of his lower back immediately and follow up with the Neurosurgeon/ Spine surgeon and he will require decompression surgery as soon as possible.
