What Causes Headache In Child?

Hi there, my 10 year old son has had headaches on and off since last Friday. On Saturday his temperature when up (about 38.5 degrees). I gave him ibprofun and it went down and that helped with the headaches too. On Sunday he woke up with achey bones and headaches and the temperature was back. He s been like this on and off since. He s fine for a few hours and wants to go back to school but then he gets hot again and takes himself off to bed. He hasn t had an ibprofun for over 12 hours but he s still going up and down. He s also got the usual cold symptoms (sore throat, runny nose, watering eyes). I m not against medication but don t like it being used when it s not needed. We re expats in Egypt and a visit to the doctor usually ends in some form of medication. Is it time to take him to a doctor? Thanks Meg

Hi,

This suggests a respiratory infection, most of which are viral. If he is otherwise fine, just give Acetaminophen 3-4 times for 3 days. Let him take rest, have a soft diet and drink enough fluids. He will be fine in a couple of days. Otherwise, we can evaluate further.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
