Hi,

According to your history the possible causes for your irregular periods are:
- Polycystic ovarian disease can be considered as one of the causes for your irregular periods.
- Sometimes women with PCOD can be associated with a sluggish functioning thyroid gland leading to symptoms like constipation, dryness of skin, etc.

As you have the problem for 5 years better to get evaluated. Please consult your gynecologist once, get examined and undergo investigations like hemoglobin levels, blood sugar levels and ultrasound. If the thyroid profile was done before 3 months better to get repeated. With this work up the possible cause of your problem can be identified and treatment can be taken accordingly. Along with this regular calorie burning exercise and healthy, balanced diet can help in decreasing the irregularity in menstrual cycles.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
