What Causes Pain And Swelling On The Lower Back Side Of My Body?

The right lower back side of my body has been swollen and in pain for several days now. I ice it down 2 or 3 times a day and before I go to bed I put icy hot cream on it. It still bothers me later on. I thought maybe it s a sprain or pulled muscle but idk . I know it s hurts when I bend over and it has been this way for 3 days already.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
At the moment, the swelling along with lower back pain make me think of pilonidal abscess. However a detailed examination by a physician will help to distinguish that pain from the one that happens after a pinched nerve or a sprained muscle. To help with the pain you can also use over-the-counter Tylenol provided there are no contraindications or allergy to it. You also will need to avoid bending forward excessively or carrying heavy weights.
