What Causes Persistent Cold With Running Nose?
Hello Doc,
I am Mr.Rajesh from Bangalore. I am 33 years old and working as SEO Consultant. I am very active and maintain very healthy lifestyle. I do not drink or smoke.
From last 45 days, I have cold ( no flu or cough )with severe running nose and sneezing. Considering it as common cold, I ignored it for first 10 days and started taking natural medicines like:
Milk with turmeric powder
Raw garlic
Ginger Tulsi Tea
I got some relief from the above, but was unable to get rid of it completely. During 2nd and third week of cold, I started ayurvedic medicine, but in vain. 4 week, I switched to homeopathy and for 1 week I took homeopathy medicines, I got relief and the cold was back again with full force.
At last, I decided to visit Ramakrishna Hospital in Basavanagudi to get rid of this Cold. I told the complete story about my cold and doctor advised X-ray, blood and urine test. All results/test were normal.
Doctor prescribed me L Montus tablets ( 1 every night for 10 days ) As I bought 7 tablets, after 1 week, I felt better with 90% cure. Again after 5 days, the cold has started again. The doctor said me that this is allergic cold – I am not sure what kind of allergy I have. I am very tired of this cold and want to get rid of this completely. Every day night, I do drink a glass full of warm milk mixed with turmeric.

I am sorry to hear that you have had a runny nose cough and sneezing for the past month. These symptoms do sound very much like an allergy. An allergy can come at anytime in your life and will manifest with persistent clear runny nose, nasal or eye itching, sneezing or cough. In my practice I usually recommend using an antihistamine like cetirizine to reduce symptoms and there is also Flonase nasal spray which will reduce the nasal drainage.
