What Causes Recurrent Hypoglycemia In A Diabetic Patient?

Dear Doc, My dad is 80 years old last Oct 31st he got a paralytic attack on his right side and since then he is bed ridden and not able to talk. He is diabetic and the reading shows before 94 and after 260. He is on insulin 12mm. He had dizziness and lot of sweat around 3 times in last one month. V took him once to hospital and it was diagnosed that the cause was due to low level of sugar. they gave glucose and he was normal. Again it happened twice. V gave him sugar and he was OK. Please let me know why it is recurring again and again. And also let me know what are the precautionary measures we should take, Since he is not able to talk we are not able to know whether he has any other discomfort during this time. Look forward for you earlier response. Thanks

Hai,

let me explain. As your dad is bed ridden and obviously food intake will less compared to earlier (normal being before attack). Depends upon the food intake drug should be fixed.
if your food intake is less and if give normal routine drug/injection it will lower the blood sugar even more.that will lead to hypoglycemia and associated symptoms.
kindly know the claorie value and glycemic index of food that you offers to your dad daily with the help of a dietician. according to that you can alter your dose of insulin and drugs.

kindly have some chocolates and some sugar balls near bed side easily reachable.advise him when he get symptom of hypoglycemia (sweating, thirst) kindly have it.

thank you
hope i answered your query
