What Causes Sensation Of Gurgling In The Back?

I have a sensation in my back on my right side that is difficult to describe. When I twist or turn a certain way, there is almost a gurgling feeling or possibly like something is rubbing against my rib cage. I recently recovered from a respiratory infection, smoke regularly, and have a persistent cough. This may be unrelated, but there is also a pain in my sternum area. When I push my shoulders back, there is a pop and the pain is relieved. Any idea what these symptoms could be?
