What Causes Severe Pain In One Side Of The Groin?

Hi, I started having pain in my left groin over a month ago along with a lump...my doctor thought this was a hernia but when I saw he consultant he said the lump was just a prominent muscle & told me to take paracetamol. The pain radiates to my hip & thigh & now I'm getting pain in my right hip, my doctor has now advised me to go for a xray. I've had a colonoscopy previously & my bowels were fine. Any ideas??
