What Causes Spike In Blood Pressure After Taking Hydralazine?
My husband takes tenormin 25 mg twice a day and recently was given Hydralazine 25 mg. 3X a day to take. His blood pressure shot up to 200 over 90 today and he had a headache and diarrhea. The dr. told him if that lowered his pressure too much to cut the pill in half. Is it ok to do that. I read on line you shouldn t cut this pill in half. Why did his pressure go up so much when taking this?

First I want to know ur husband's age, Is there Blood pressure problem in his family ie mother, father, brother, sister, uncle, grandparents.
Because in young age episodic high blood pressure without family history may have some underlying cause for high blood pressure, this is called as secondary hypertension.
Such patients requires multiple medicine for bloodpressure control.
That's why he require further evaluation like basic blood test for kidney, sonography of kidney and abdomen, thyroid function test, test for hormone related causes of high blood pressure like related to adrenal glands.
Also there is need to evaluate for effect of high blood pressure on eyes, kidneys, heart.
As you asked regarding making tablets half for those on which written as not to cut, basically these tablet are special coating or cover which help in constant slow release of Medicine from tablets after ingestion, after cutting tablet this property of formulation lost, and medicine get released faster than usual this may not have any adverse effects on body.
