What Causes Tremors During Sleep And Shaky Hands While Awake?
Hi. I am a thirty five year old female with a history of depression. 2 years ago I had a couple of seizure like episodes while still concious but my mri came out normal. I am 5 feet 3 inches tall, weigh 135 lbs and in overall good health. My concern is I experience body tremors while asleep that wake up my husband. Im not usually aware of this happening since I am deep asleep. I wonder what would cause that. Since the seizure episodes, my hands shake a lot during waking hours when holding my phone or using keys to open a lock. I would like to know what this means. Thanks.
You should be examined by a neurologist and likely undergo some testing using an electroencephalogram (EEG) unit and possibly an MRI of the brain. Blood work can also be done for the thyroid gland to see if any other metabolic factors can be identified. You may have nocturnal myoclonic jerks.
Shaking of the hands during waking hours may be secondary to other problems such as medication induced tremor or even an essential tremor. The neurologist will examine these other issues as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Dariush Saghafi,
