My son has woken this am with blue veins on his (L) chest, just under his clavicle bone. There is no swelling down his (L) arm, he is breathing ok, and no pain associated with the veins. Yesterday he asked me to scrub his back with a skin exfoliator to help with acne etc. and I remember doing this on his shoulders as well. He has Mild Von Willebrands disease. There are no other symptoms apart from the visible veins that have now appeared. Around a cluster of 12 about 1 inch long. Could this be a clot??????
This can potentially be a blood clot or blockage of this upper extremity deep veins (axillary, subclavian, etc). Such blockages can cause blood to find other routes back to the heart in the form of collaterals. I would have him obtain a duplex ultrasound of the veins in his arm, neck, and chest on that side to rule out any blockage or clot.
