Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Be The 8 Aphtha Found In Terminal Ileum In Colonoscopy?
I just had a colonoscopy and they found 8 aphtha in the terminal ileum. They were biopsied and I when they got the results they said I had an infection and that the Dr would see me in 3 to 4 wks! That does not really make sense to me! What do you think?
Biopsy from ulcers in terminal ileum must have revealed features suggestive of a chronic infection, which can be H.pylori, amebic or a fungal infection. Apparently, the pathologist is yet to isolate the organism, identify it and also subject it to sensitivity test so as to determine the most effective anti-microbial drug. This process is time consuming. which accounts for the fact that you have been asked to meet the doctor after 3-4 weeks.
There is nothing to worry about, as the treatment is different for all infective agents. There is no rationale behind giving a presumptive treatment.
Hope I have addressed to your concerns to your complete satisfaction and you find my response helpful and informative. I will be happy to answer further queries, if any.
Fond regards and have a nice day,
Dr. Rakesh Karanwal
