What Could Be The Black And Gooey Stuff Inside The Ear Of A 2 Year Old Baby?

my 1 (almost 2) year old cousin has some black and gooey stuff inside of her ear. You can't see it with out an ear stethoscope or whatever they use. Some other kid as her day care has it. I have no idea what it is or what it could be. It looks like pitch black ear wax. Please help
