The white specks were apparently mucus, left behind around the anus after bowel movement.
Mucus in stools is usually due to either a
protozoal infection or, due to Irritable Bowels Syndrome(
IBS). The information provided by you is very vague and needs further elaboration at length.
A 5 day-course of
metronidazole should clear the intestinal infection, if it is due to protozoal infection. IBS needs a long-term treatment.
