What Could Cause A Depressed Hemoglobin Level(4.8) In 78 Years Old Female?
78 year old female with hemoglobin of 4.8, able to drive to md office. Sent immediately to er and hospitialized for transfusion. Given 4 units of blood along with b12 injections. Hemoglobin now at 9.6. Colonoscopy and egd performed with good results. What would be the most likely culprit?

the causes of blood loss in the elderly are upper gastrointestinal bleed and next lower gastrointestinal bleed, worm infestations etc., and anaemia may also may be due to undiagnosed malignancy, deficient in iron and vitamins in diet.
I will advise you to get upper GI endoscopy also and take the opinion of the local physician and take care.
