What Could Constant Twinge In Lower Abdomen After Being Off The Pill Indicate?
hello, I have had a constant twinge in my lower abdomen for the past week. I went off the pill a month ago and I was due for my period last monday. Have done a home pregnancy test and came back negative. Wondering if it is possible to be pregnant or if it could be something else.
After stopping the contraceptive pills it may take few months for regularization of reproductive hormone levels and thereby the menstrual cycles. Lower abdominal pain can be seen during the premenstrual period also. So just by the symptoms we cannot come to a conclusion regarding the pregnancy. As rarely urine pregnancy test kits can give false negatives, and as at present you are not on any contraception, if you want to be sure please go for a blood test for pregnancy.
If the serum beta HCG levels in the blood test are less than 5 mIU/mL it rules out the possibility of pregnancy. If the test is negative, you can wait and watch for one more week and possibly you may get your menstrual periods by the time, meanwhile you can take antispasmodic drugs with your doctor's advice to decrease the pain.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
