Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
Increased homocysteine levels in the blood, known as homocysteinemia, can be due to a variety of factors - heriditary, nutritional problems or environmental factors. Having an elevated level of homocysteine implies that there is an increased risk for stroke and cardio-vascular morbidity. It does not mean that you will "die of a heart attack"
Treatment of increased homocysteine levels is with vitamin summplements such as folic acid or B12. Regular monitoring of levels as well as for other risk factors is necessary on a long term basis. Please discuss about further evaluation and treatment options with your doctor.
Wish you all the best.
Regards,
Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar
