What Does My MRI Report Mean?

Recent MRI shows 1) C5-6 desiccated bulging disc with broad-based left paracentral disc protrusion and focal right foraminal disc protrusion with moderate canel stenosis. There is severe formaminal narrowing bilaterally. 2) C6-7 bulging disc with right foraminal disc protrusion and mild to moderate foraminal stenosis right greater than left. 3) C4-5 bulging disc with asymmetric facet arthropathy toward the right and mild foraminal stenosis on the right. 4) C3-4 bulging disc with 2mm disc protrusion without canel stenosis. Can you please put this in laymans terms. Thanks Stan

Hello

According to report, you are suffering from degenerative disc disease of cervical spine.
Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis.

1.At C5- 6 level, there is desiccated bulging disc(loss of water from disc) with broad based left paracentral disc herniation and focal right foraminal disc herniation which is causing moderate narrowing of central canal. There is severe narrowing of lateral neural foramen bilaterally.

2.At C6-7 level there is also disc bulge with disc herniation in right side which is causing mild to moderate narrowing of latreal neural foramen (R> L).

3.At C4-5 level, there is disc bulge with asymmetric facet arthropathy which is causing narrowing of lateral neural foramen in right side.

4.At C3-4 level, there is bulged disc without narrowing of central canal.

So,you have multilevel findings.

Majority of the cases of degenerative spine disease are benefited by physiotherapy,so physiotherapy should be tried first.
Surgery should be the last option.

Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurologist.

Get well soon.
Take Care
