What Does Paracentral Disc Protrusion With Marginal Left T12 Nerve Mean?
My MRI report says TE1112 left paracentral disc protrusion with marginal left T12 nerve root contact, L5-S1 degenerate disc desiccation, Facet Hyperthrophy disease disc disease with severe bilateral forminal stenosis and posterolateral sixth rib fracture. What does all this mean for treatment?
According to MRI report you have degenerative disc disease of thoraco-lumbar spine. Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis which allows herniation of disc.
1.There is left para central disc herniation at T12 level which is in contact with left T12 nerve root . 2.There is dehydration of disc at L5-S1 level. 3.There is also hypertrophy of facets joints with severe bilateral neural foramen stenosis and posterolateral sixth rib fracture.
Treatment for degenerative lumbar disease includes physiotherapy or surgery. Effectiveness of both modalities are same. So,physiotherpay should be tried first. It causes strengthening of Para spinal muscles and it prevents further changes. Surgery should be the last option. There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief. Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurosurgeon. Get well soon.
