my MRI states that:.... there is no evidence of acute fracture. The conus has a normal appearance. The L1-2, L2-3, L3-4 discs are clear. At L4-5 there is early disc desiccation & a right foraminal annular tear measures up to 12mm approx in transverse diameter(acial T2 image 10).... can you tell me what this means?
Report suggests mild degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine. Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis.
1.At L4-5 level, there is mild dessication of disc (means mild loss of water from disc) and 12 mm annular tear around right neural foramen.
2. Rest of the findings are normal. There is no e/o vertebral fracture. L1-2, L2-3 and L3-4 discs spaces are normal.
So,you have mild findings. Majority of the cases of degenerative spine disease are benefited by physiotherapy,so physiotherapy should be tried first. Surgery should be the last option.
Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurologist.
