What Does The Circumferential Annular Tear In Mri Result Indicate?

I am a 33 male, generally good health, recent Back .pain, after 6 weeks, MRI result, opinion, is circumferential annular tear or fissure involving the L4/5 disc with an associated broad annular protrusion which just abuts the exiting leftL 4 nerve root. What does this all mean?

Hi,
Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic.
The peripheral part of intervertebral disc is called annulus which prevents the disc from bulging out. If there is break/tear in this annulus the disc can bulge out causing compression of the surrounding nerve roots resulting in backache.
In your case, there is a tear in the annulus of the disc at L4-5 level which causes broad annular protrusion of the disc. As it is compressing the left exiting nerve root you might be facing some tingling sensations in your left lower limb as well.
I think its a small tear and with physiotherapy it can be controlled and surgery can be avoided for it though without seeing the extent it is not possible to comment. Please check with your orthopedician for it.
Hope it sorts your problem and wishing you a speedy recovery.
