What Does White Lesions With Puss Pockets In Colposcopy Suggest?

I just recently got a colposcopy done. My doctor found a white lesion and did not quite know what it was at the time, but she poked at it and it was a pus pocket and she poped it, and boom it was gone. I watched it while she was doing it. What causes these pus pockets? I will ask my doctor so I will not have to pay anymore. Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Infections are the commonest cause for pus pockets. What you were seeing is loculated collections which were formed as a result of infection. Sometimes the infections get sealed off by themselves and cannot be treated by medicines. When this happens, the alternative treatment is surgical drainage which was done by your doctor.

During colposcopy, the area is well visualized directly by a small camera and the doctor is able to see the nature and extent of the pus pockets. Once the lesions are clearly visualized, the doctor makes a tiny cut to bring out the pus and this is the treatment of the condition. Your doctor might give you a short course of antibiotics. Please do not worry.
