What Is ESR And How Does It Matter For Health Condition?

Hello Doctor, I am Swapna age 30. I was facing severe lower back ache from last 2 weeks so my doctor suggested me to do MRI scan and blood test. My MRI report says" L5-S1:Dehydration of the disc is seen with diffuse disc bulge with central annular tear with impingment over right traversing nerve roots." and My ESR is 52. What kind of treatment will you suggest me? What is ESR and how does it matter for health condition? Thanks in advance.

Hi Swapna,
Thank you for your query.
Severe lower back pain is due to bulging and compression of nerve roots by the bulging disc.
You need to consult the orthopedic or neurosurgeon for further advise.
ESR is a nonspecific test and it is elevated in many conditions like anemia, infections and its elevation should be clinically correlated by your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
