Hi, I recently went to the emergency for a chest injury. I had an xray and they first that I had a broken sternum so they next did a ct scan. They asked if I had felt sick cause it looked like pnemonia. I said no. They then did blood work and it turned out I did not have any infections. The dr said I had some opacities in my right lung. My question is what in the world is a lung opacity and should I be worried?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Chest injury can sometimes cause lung injury in the form of lung contusion. It appears as lung infection (pneumonia) on chest x ray and CT thorax. So lung opacity is mostly due to lung contusion. So no need to worry much. Get done repeat CT thorax after 3 months. It will resolve during this time and opacity will be gone. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
