What Is The Basic Unit Of Levemir Insulin Shots To Bring Readings Form 300 To 150?

I just started levemir insulin shots, my doctor is starting me on 10 units, and was told to increase slowly until my readings are 150 or lower. So far my readings are staying in the upper 200 s to low 300 s. Was wondering what is the basic units it might take to get my reading diwn to 150 or lower.

there is no rule for that. Some patients may be fine with 15 units/day others may need 50 or more. Your doctor's advice about increasing the insulin dosage slowly is correct. Are you cautious regarding your food intake? Do you take levemir once or twice a day? Levemir can be taken once but in some cases a twice daily dosage gives better results. Are you using bolus insulin before the meals?
You haven't told us for how long you are using insulin and your current dosage.
My advice would be to increase the dosage slowly - as your doctor already told you - and then you can add bolus insulin units before the meals. This is a step-by-step approach that usually delivers good results while staying on the safe side regarding serious hypoglycemia episodes. If you want faster results then you'll have to cooperate closely with an experienced doctor who will guide you to faster insulin dosage elevation.
