Hello Sir, I have a lesion (small red patch around 4-5mm in dia) on the lateral part of my tongue very close to the lingual tonsils area? I have found it to be there for the last 4 weeks; it varis in size day by day; some days it is big and some days it is seen to be reduced in size. Do you think I should visit an oncologist? I have seeen a few ENT doctors but none of them are suggesting a biopsy; however, I am very petrified that it is not going away.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain a small red patch on the side of the tongue near lingual tonsil that keeps fluctuating in size does not seems to be cancerous as the cancerous ulcers will not reduce in size, although it may keep enlarging in size.. I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly.. He can look for the causes like deficiency of iron or vitamin B12, acid reflux, trauma to the tongue with some sharp tooth or tongue bite etc.. As of now you can do warm saline gargles.. Apply a numbing gel if there is pain.. You can also suck ice and do cool water rinses.. Take a multivitamin tablet daily..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
