What Is The Treatment For Irregular Bowel Movements?
my husband has not had a regular bowel movement in about 3 weeks, he takes fiber he has used laxatives stool softeners & the er gave him to pain pills & something to move his bowels also he has had a couple of fleet enemas is their anything else we can try
According to your complain you have problem of irregular bowel that may be because of lack of fiber and water intake in diet.
Intestinal obstruction may ruled out. If this type of symptoms present long standing than think about irritable bowel syndrom.
Lack of gastric motility cause constipation problem. Hypothyroidism also cause irregular bowel movement.
Bowel habit training is helpful. Drink more water and high fiber foods. Avoid gaseous foods like cabbage, cauliflower, carbonated drinks etc....
Bulk forming agent like psyllium is helpful to you.. Consent a gastroenterologist for further diagnosis. Barium abdominal x ray is helpful for further diagnosis. Colonoscopy can done for further diagnosis.
