after a recent scan the results show I have a fibroid on anterior wall. I was very surprised as I am peri menopausal. Had blood tests 5 yrs which confirmed this. I've suffered very heavy periods for yrs, been prescribed Tranexamic acid which has really helped the heavy blood loss
if there is a fibroid and it is producing symptoms then it needs treatment. Asymptomatic small fibroids do not require any management. But big fibroids even if asymptomatic are better treated as they may grow at any point of time.
As you are having bleeding issues controlled with tranexamic acid, discuss with your doctor about the size of the fibroids and weather it is the one causing bleeding. Sometimes even big fibroids do not cause bleeding as they are near the outer surface of the uterus.
The available treatment options are progesterone tablets or mirena IUD, endometrial ablation or heat destruction of uterine lining, blocikng the artery supplying blood to the fibroid [ embolisation] and hysterectomy. A myomectomy or simple removal of fibroid is also an option and is advocated in women that are young and want children.
So discuss all these with your doctor and then choose treatment.
