When Should Test Be Taken For Strep Throat?
Our family has a history of it taking 4 or 5 days for strep throat to test positive on a culture and sensitivity test. My daughter s doctor says it is not possible to run the test for more than 48 hours. My mother in law (the side of the family who has long struggled with this unusual strep throat) and is a very knowledgeable RN is very sure that it can be? Any ideas if this is possible? Is there a workaround to be sure my daughter does not have it?

Since the history runs in family the cause can be some family members going out of work and getting viral infections turning into sore throat, transmitting to all the family members and hence the recurrence. I would advise you to identify the person in family who brings viral infection at home. If found then he or she has to be carefully avoid people with viral fever.
Identify the foods and beverages that can also cause sore throats in family. Povidone iodine gargles for all family members. Antibiotic cover and other medicines as required. Your question related to strep test is valid but either way needs an antibiotic treatment even through the strep test is negative.
