Why Am I Getting These Series Of Different Ailments?

For the past few months I ve had a series of random ailments that seemed to be separate from each other. But now, I m not so sure and before I go hounding a doctors office with a bunch of potentially random unrelated ailments, I thought I would come here. Starting about 6 months ago, I started feeling pretty tired. I thought I had the flu for a bit as I had stomach pain and nausea and my temperature was consistently in the 99.4-101 range. After a while the nausea subsided but the low grade fever and fatigue stayed. It s been 6 months and my temperature hasn t gone back down below 99.4ish. Starting about 2 months ago the nausea came back. i had trouble holding anything down. what was weird is that even though my appetite was low and I was eaten less and occasionally getting sick because of my stomach, I still managed to gain 23 lbs in 4 weeks. I went to the ER because my fever spiked to 103 and I had horrible stomach pain (i don t have a gall bladder or an appendix). My white count was a little high (18) but nothing major. And my anion gap was a little high (21) but everything else in the CBC seemed ok. The CT scan came back clear. It looks like it s nothing serious so I don t want to look like an idiot going back but id be lying if i said i wasn t worried. In the past month my weight dropped again just as quickly as it came on. I gained 23 lbs in 4 weeks, and I lost close to 30 in the past 3 weeks. I m now under where I started. I still feel incredibly tired and the nausea comes and goes. 3 days ago I noticed a little blood when I went to the bathroom (not my period) and it was present yesterday and today also. I had a CT scan of my upper abdomen and my CBC came back ok except the two I mentioned. I m feeling really discouraged as it seems like every time i turn around another thing is wrong. Please tell me you know what it could possibly be and save me an embarrassing trip to a doctors office? Thank you!

hi there, first of all don't feel bad about stating your problems, they are valid and need to be addressed. The tiredness, fatigue and rapid gain in weight point to a possiblity of having thyroid hormone dysfunction and so a thyroid profile should be done to rule out that condition. Low grade fever and nausea could be indicative of a sub acute infective condition. Also a high white blood count point towards the same. If you are from the African or indian subcontinent then getting an ESR and a Mantoux test along with a chest X-ray will help in ruling out tuberculosis. Get a routine urine exam along with serum creatinine levels to rule out any kidney dysfunction which could also present with mild fever and listlessness along with fatigue. Systematically ruling out the possibilities will help one to get to the diagnosis. Stay positive and we should be able to find the cause. Take care
