Why And How Does The Mucus Collect Behind The Tonsils Especially On Right Side?

Dr. Since four months I have mucus collecting behind my tonsils especially on the right side. Why and how does this happen when I look into my throat I can see it. I have checked with the ENT and he said no infection. Can this be an allergy problem.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
Mucus is normally produced in the respiratory tract. Mucus is absolutely essential for the normal functioning of the respiratory tract.
The mucus that is produced by the nose and the paranasal sinuses drains into the throat behind the tonsils on its way to the stomach.
This is what you have seen.
Its normal and nothing to worry about.
This is not an allergy problem.
Regards, Dr Kishori.
