Why Does My Heart Beats Hard And Pulse Is Low?

I am 54 years old and have gone through menopause several years ago. Sometimes my heart beats real hard...just once and maybe again several minutes or hours later. It is a really hard beat. It is scaring me. I do not have high blood pressure. It is usually 95/60 or so. My pulse at the time of the hard beat is about 65 bpm or less. Is this something I should worry about?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There is a ventricular premature complexes, which are ectopic or extra beats. These are usually benign and not life threatening or worrisome. So before going ahead we need to confirm it. Since if these are not frequent then EKG may be normal, so in that case you ll need 24 holter monitoring which can diagnose these. So subsequently, you may need echo or other investigations based on reports.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
