Hello,

Cracking sound in joint are of no major importance unless they are associated with pain at joints. With pain crackling sound can be due to arthritis of joint. In absence of pain this can be due to clicking of one surface of joint towards other position and can be associated with muscle weakness. The best way to treat them is to have a good muscle balance around weight bearing joints. In case of knee you may do exercises to avoid them.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
