Will Sprintec Birth Control Pills Manage Heavy Bleeding Caused By Uterine Fibroids?
i was prescribed Sprintec birth control pills in Dec 2013 to help manage heavy bleeding caused by uterine fibroids; I was told by doctor to take 1st two packs without placebo pills. I did that. Then I started 3rd pack and did take placebo pills. I have been bleeding profusely since last Friday, with lots of clots, light headedness, and chest pains. I just started 4th pack on Sunday, and began bleeding heavily today, after a brief lull on Saturday and Sunday. Should I finish this pack of pills? Can I take more than one pill per day to lessen bleeding?
I would recommend doubling up for three days and seeing if that helps to stop this episode. Birth-control pills often help control bleeding hi in patients with fibroids however not all patients will respond to hormones and some may require surgery. There is no physiological reason that you need to have menses and if you do better without taking the placebo pills you can take the pills continuously without ever taking a break. Some women shorten the placebo week to only be three or four days. All of these are safe options. Good luck.
