Worsening Pain/swelling Behind Left Ear That Became A Throb On The Bone
i began to have pain/swelling behind my left ear 10 days ago. as the swelling worsened, the pain became a throb on the bone. 1st ENT suggested nerve issues. he presribed a 3 day course of Clavid. with no results, a 2nd ENT suggested an infection causing swollen lymph nodes behind my ear. i have had no fever. he prescribed Gracevit & Prednizone. the swelling has reduced, but i still have a hardened knot and throbbing on the bone. advice appreciated.
Hi. The pain on the mastoid can even be due to an infection of the bone itself and can be nicely diagnosed on CT Scan of the mastoids. As you have already been seen by two ENT, I am a bit assured for the diagnosis of a lymph node, but this is rare for the problem to continue so long in spite of antibiotic and other medicines including Prednisone. I would yet like you to go for the CT scan of the mastoid. ( many times we diagnose the case by ruling out few diseases.)
