Chalazion occurs when oil in the gland becomes too thick to flow out of the gland. The excess oil produced builds up inside the gland and forms lump in the eye lid. Later the gland ruptures and releases the oil in to the tissue of the eye lid causing inflammation.

Signs and symptoms of Chalazion

• Eye lid swelling
• Eye pain
• Eye irritation
• Watering of eyes
• Increased sensitivity to the light
• Heaviness of eye lid

Diagnosis:

• Medical history
• Ophthalmological examaintion

Treatment of Chalazion

• Warm compressions are applied
• Massage can be done over the area
• Antibiotic ointments, drops can be applied.
• Injection of steroid to decrease inflammation can be done
• Surgical removal of lump under local anesthesia is done
