Systemic Sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease of the connective tissue. The localized type of the disease is known as morphea. It leads to hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissues. Localized disease affects the skin while the generalized one also affects the internal organs like lungs etc. Excessive collagen deposition causes skin and internal organ changes. Many factors, including environmental factors, can lead to immunologic system disturbances and vascular changes. Scleroderma is characterized by the formation of scar tissue that is fibrosis in the skin and organs of the body.
