Is Cefixome And Zithromax Effective In Treatment Of Gonorrea?

Treatment of gonorrhea
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic
I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your concern and I have understood it
Treatment options for Gonorrhea are:
--Single I/M injection of Ceftriaxone 250 mg is recommended by CDC. It has >99% success rate for uncomplicated urogenital and anorectal gonorrhea and 99% success rate for pharayngeal gonorrhea. This regime is preferred because it provides sustained, high bactericidal levels in the blood.
--However, single dose of Cefixime 400mg along with single dose of Azithromycin 1gm is also recommended by CDC. It has the advantage of oral administration over ceftriaxone. While cefixime acts against Gonococcus, Azithromycin is given for Non-Gonococcal urethritis (due to chlamydia, mycoplasma etc), which is frequently co-existent. This regime has 97.5% success rate for uncomplicated urogenital and anorectal gonorrhea. Cefixime has limited efficacy against pharyngeal gonorrhea.
