Question: Hi Doctor,
following is the MRI impression:
L3-4 diffuse disc bulge with thickened flavum is moderately compressing the thecal sac and impinges the traversing nerve roots.
L4-5 diffuse disc bulge with posterior central broad-based disc protrusion with significantly thickened ligament flavum is causing marked compression of the thecal sac and impinging the traversing nerve roots.
Brief Answer:
Consult a neurosurgeon at the earliest
Detailed Answer:
Hi Lady,
Thanks for posting your query on this forum. I have gone through your MRI report.
Low backache is due to spinal deformity, while the pain in lower limbs is on account of nerves compression by the bulging discs.
There is no effective medical treatment. Hence, surgical removal of the bulging discs- so as to relieve compression on the nerves- is the only treatment for pain in the lower limbs.
I would therefore recommend that you consult a Neurosurgeon at the earliest and, apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me.
Pending visit to Neurosurgeon, you can take Pregabalin or Carbamazepine for temporary relief of pain. Your ER will prescribe them in appropriate and effective doses.
Hope I have addressed your concerns to your complete satisfaction and you find my response helpful and informative. I will be happy to answer further queries, if any.
Have a nice day,
Col (Dr.) Rakesh Karanwal
